L’Odyssée de Leah Fraser

Leah Fraser, jeune artiste australienne, a choisi une approche de l’art assez traditionnelle dans ses techniques (peinture et modelage essentiellement, quelques assemblages), contrastant avec son style bien singulier.

Ses œuvres marquent par une esthétique exotique et colorée immédiatement identifiable, dans laquelle il est difficile de ne pas percevoir l’empreinte du travail du Douanier Rousseau. Elle dit s’être inspirée de plusieurs cultures dans le monde pour produire cette série : le but n’est pas là de se faire ethnologue ou reporter, mais bien de faire rêver.

En parallèle de ses toiles, elle réalise des figurines et des récipients en céramique, souvent ornés de cristaux et pierres colorées. Au final, c’est un univers entier qu’elle crée, peuplé d’hommes de différentes origines, d’idoles, d’oiseaux bariolés, de roches brillantes et de bouteilles de potions magiques.

The characters are magicians, shamans – healers that are knowledgeable or spiritual beings with a deep respect and understanding of the natural world.

Les personnages sont des magiciens, des chamanes – des guérisseurs qui sont des êtres de connaissance ou de spiritualité avec un respect et une compréhension profonde du monde naturel.
